Van Locks: A Worthwhile Investment

Van locks are today an absolute must in logistics transportation. Under the impending pressure of the risk of cargo crime, the slam lock with its automatic locking ability, are a logistics miracle; especially to the forgetful driver who no longer need concern himself with any doubt that he may have left the door unlocked.

Cargo crime is certainly a problem in the EU and is responsible for very large sums of money indeed. Each and every year, there is an alarming number of offences on European roads and criminal gangs are responsible for many of these crimes They already possess strong organisation skills along with extensive knowledge of the routes.

There are good reasons why criminal groups deal in this kind of crime. They reason that with the transportation of goods and in particular, the sheer volume, it presents a viable option for profit. Also, with the very nature of such a journey, there is a need for regular breaks and this too makes for a potential easy target in the driver.

The slam lock eradicates any possibility that human error can intervene in locking the vehicle door. The driver doesn’t have to lift a finger, except upon shutting the door of course. Forgetting to lock it however, has been the cause for a large number of cargo offences. The slam lock makes such a cause a thing of the past.

This type of solution, despite its effectiveness is actually only a minimum requirement in combating cargo crime. There have been added to the market, a number of advanced solutions such as immobilisers and alarm systems and they are all effective in minimising the risk of this kind of crime. Although there is an element of unfairness that either an individual or company should have to make such an investment in order to prevent criminals from striking but when you look at what is at stake, it is surely a worthwhile investment.
